GPA Calculator

A GPA Calculator is an online tool that helps students quickly find their Grade Point Average (GPA) based on their grades and course credits. GPA is one of the most important measures of academic performance, as it reflects how well a student has performed across multiple subjects. Instead of manually calculating weighted averages, this calculator makes the process fast, accurate, and stress-free.

How GPA Works

GPA is calculated by assigning numerical values (called grade points) to letter grades such as A, B, C, D, and F. Each course also has a credit hour value, which shows its importance in the overall average. The GPA is then computed by dividing the total grade points earned by the total number of credits.

Example Calculation:
Course Credit Grade Grade Points Calculation
Math 4 A 4 × 4.0 = 16
Physics 3 B+ 3 × 3.3 = 9.9
English 2 A- 2 × 3.7 = 7.4

9 (Total Credits) → is the sum of all course credit hours.

Example: Math (4 credits) + Physics (3 credits) + English (2 credits) = 9 credits total.

GPA = Total Points ÷ Total Credits = 33.3 ÷ 9 = 3.70

Common GPA Grading Scale

GradePoints GradePoints
A+4.3B3.0
A4.0B-2.7
A-3.7C+2.3
B+3.3C2.0
C-1.7
D+1.3D1.0
D-0.7F0.0

Other grades like P (Pass), W (Withdrawal), or I (Incomplete) usually don’t affect GPA.

Tips to Improve Your GPA

  • Attend Classes Regularly – Helps you stay updated and understand concepts better.
  • Participate Actively – Boosts confidence and deepens understanding.
  • Stay Organized – Keep notes, assignments, and schedules in order for effective revision.
  • Plan Your Time – Balance study, assignments, and personal activities.
  • Focus on Weak Areas – Spend more time on subjects you struggle with.
  • Use Campus Resources – Tutors, study groups, and academic centers provide support.

What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It shows a student’s overall academic performance across all semesters or terms. Unlike GPA (which is for one semester), CGPA combines results from multiple semesters and gives a single overall score.

GPA → One semester performance
CGPA → Overall performance (all semesters combined)

How to Calculate CGPA?

The formula for CGPA is:

CGPA = (Total Grade Points of All Semesters) ÷ (Total Credits of All Semesters)

Step-by-Step

  • Multiply the grade point of each course by its credit hours.
  • Add up all the points from all semesters.
  • Add up the total credits from all semesters.
  • Divide total points by total credits.

Example

Semester 1

  • Math (4 credits × 4.0) = 16
  • Physics (3 credits × 3.3) = 9.9
  • English (2 credits × 3.7) = 7.4

Total = 33.3 points / 9 credits → GPA = 3.7

Semester 2

  • Biology (3 credits × 3.0) = 9
  • Chemistry (3 credits × 3.7) = 11.1
  • History (3 credits × 4.0) = 12

Total = 32.1 points / 9 credits → GPA = 3.57

CGPA Calculation

CGPA = (33.3 + 32.1) ÷ (9 + 9) = 65.4 ÷ 18 = 3.63

Why is CGPA Important?

  • Shows overall academic strength.
  • Used in university admissions, scholarships, and job applications.
  • Makes comparison between students fair and standardized.
